A chatbot-search-engine hybrid to help you learn
How Google keeps trying to reinvent itself
Learn About, Google’s new pet project / google.com
Google will not go down without a fight (if at all, tbh).
It’s been a tough few months for Google:
OpenAI have released multiple ‘search engine killers’, including SearchGPT which is literally a search engine in the form of a chatbot.
Perplexity is hot on their heels too, with CEO Aravind Srinivas boasting 100M queries per week and announcing ‘next stop: 100M+ queries every day’.
Fighting regulations left, right, and centre.
I’d almost feel bad if it wasn’t for, you know, their $2.21 trillion market cap.
And so their fighting spirit lives on as they continue to innovate.
Learn About…
… is the latest fighter they’re throwing in the ring.
Learn About is a hybrid between a search engine and a chatbot.
Enter a question, and the bot-slash-search-engine gives you an answer with a deep dive into the topic, lots of context, and further reading.
This is pretty cool
Learn About follows a series of AI-enabled tools released by Google, including:
Illuminate, which enables you to turn any scientific paper into a robot podcast.
Gemini, the chatbot that seems to keep popping up everywhere (Google Maps, Google Slides, Gmail, etc.).
NotebookLM, a personal assistant that summarises facts and help you brainstorm ideas, all based on sources you select.
The most exciting thing about this?
We get to experience, in real-time, an industry giant taking on the Innovator’s Dilemma. This is something we read about in product history books (if those were a thing) — but we get to live it!
