If you work in an open-plan office, you might want to warn your co-workers: it's about to get talkative up in here.
Kevin Weil, Chief Product Officer at OpenAI, has announced the release of Advanced Voice Mode for the web.
Rolling out to ChatGPT paid users this week: Advanced Voice Mode on web! 😍
We launched Advanced Voice Mode in our iOS and Android apps in September, and just recently brought them to our desktop apps (openai.com/chatgpt/deskto…)—now we’re excited to add web to the mix. This means… x.com/i/web/status/1…

You can now fire up the browser, click the little microphone button, and chat away with your only fr- ChatGPT.
Mobile users got the scoop
Advanced Voice Mode was first released to ChatGPT's Android and iOS apps back in September.
The voice feature uses OpenAI's GPT 4o model which understands the user's speech, transcribes it (requiring the user to hit 'send' on the transcription), and then responds.
The interaction is extremely smooth. Part of the reason for that is ChatGPT's ability to adapt to speech speed, understand subtle emotions in voice tones, and respond with its own 'emotions'.
Oh, and it comes in nine voices, each of which has its own characteristics. For example, "Arbor” is “easygoing and versatile".
Paid users only...
...for now. The web voice update is going out to all ChatGPT Plus, Enterprise, and Teams users first. Free users will get it next.
