Gemini now available on iPhone

The personal AI assistant makes its way to Apple users

It’s been a tumultuous road but Google made it: Gemini is now available in the iOS App Store (for free).

This version includes a few goodies like:

  • The classic GPT-like conversation mode we’ve all come to know and love. Simply chat with Gemini. Let the conversation flow through you. Gemini is now your only friend (who speaks 10 languages, too).

  • Features to help you learn and study. We reported on Learn About recently and it seems some of these features have made it to the Gemini app.

  • Generate historically accurate images… oh, wait, no. Just images.

Power in the product ecosystem

Perhaps most interesting is the ability for Gemini to tap into other apps on your phone. Thanks to Extensions, Gemini can access other Google-owned applications like YouTube, Calendar, Gmail, etc. and help you do stuff.

From this point of view, Google have an interesting advantage over other products like ChatGPT (which also has an excellent iOS app). Thanks to its ecosystem of apps, Gemini is immediately more powerful than anything else you’d have to string together with a competitor.

It feels like yesterday…

… Gemini’s image generation rocked the world with its gross historical inaccuracies. But live and learn, as they say — and learned they did.

Also, remember this picture? Still a contender for one of the best candid shots of the year in tech.
