Snap enhance location-sharing user flow
A clever location-sharing user flow

Where is your teen right now?
This is the question Snapchat hopes to answer with their latest location-sharing user flow. Let's dive into the why and the how.
Crackdown on child safety
Snap have been on a mission to improve the safety of the children using their product. With some 60% of teens using Snapchat (90% use YouTube, 63% use TikTok, per Pew Research), their safety is clearly a priority.
In 2022, Snap released the Family Centre -- a new set of features to help parents "get more insight into who their teens are friends with on Snapchat, and who they have been communicating with, while still respecting their teens' privacy and autonomy".
Some of the Family Centre's key features include:
See which Snapchat friends their teen has chatted with in the last seven days.
See their teen's complete friend list.
Limit their teen's ability to view certain types of content.
And more.
Where are you (and back)?
Now, Snap are enhancing the Family Centre with a new and improved location-sharing feature.

From a product POV, this is a beautiful feature. It's elegant, easy to use, and it works both ways; teens can request a location back from their parents.
Over 350 million people use the Snap Map every day. With the UK reporting that half of online grooming cases happen on Snapchat, we can only hope this feature makes the streets safer.
