Snap fights (for) your corner

Caption

Why take a boring ol' picture when you can Snap instead?

iOS 18 has introduced new customisation, including the option to change the usual 'basic' camera icon in the bottom right of your lock screen to, well, almost anything.

Snap have jumped on the opportunity to be one of the first apps to release a shortcut:

Add a Snap shortcut to your lock screen / snap.com

(To do this, long-press your locked screen, tap 'Customise', tap 'Lock screen', and finally hit the minus on the camera icon. You can now replace it!).

As a non-avid Snap user, I thought I’d explore what else I could replace my camera button with. Here are my favourites:

ChatGPT

Add a ChatGPT shortcut to your lock screen / thebacklog

Airplane mode

For the jet setters

New email

For when you're an email dude.

Voice memo

To be that annoying person recording all their thoughts because 'it's easier than texting'. No it's not, Steve.

What else is up with Snap?

Along with this earth-shattering feature, Snap have packed their Fall release with a few goodies:

  • Spooky lenses (if you send me a clown Snap I will fight you).

  • Snap stickers have been extremely popular, reportedly shared over 210 billion times. So they added a few new ones.

  • Footsteps, a Snap Map feature that displays the ground you’ve covered. Thankfully this is only visible to you.
